Outta Sight 1960’s Themed Party Ideas

Outta Sight Groovy Ideas for Yolo 1960’s Themed Party Costumes, Hippie Costumes, Flower Child Fashion Tips, 60’s Party Accessories, Decorations and Music

About the 1960’s Decade

Whether you are a child of the 1960’s or not, a 1960’s themed party is so much fun! A 60’s theme party celebrates the era of the flower child, hippie culture, folk music, Motown, and rock ‘n’ roll. The 1960’s decade was also all about the “British Invasion” giving us the music of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and many other popular British bands of the sixties.

1960’s Fashion and Culture

Fashion models of the 60’s wore mini-skirts, go-go boots, and the very popular Gibson hairdo. Flower child clothing usually consisted of long flowing cotton dresses, which is considered Boho fashion style today. Wearing hair ribbons, a single flower in the hair or a wreath of flowers around the head was very popular flower child traditions.

Hippie’s wore colorful shirts with jeans. Sandals were the most common choice for hippie and flower children footwear. Hippies frequently wore tie-dye tee shirts, necklaces, beads, bandannas and jeans with wide belts. Some hippies lived a communal lifestyle. And the “love-in” was considered a common practice of the hippie culture.

The “mop top” became a popular hairstyle for young men emulating the Beatles. Other popular 1960’s fashion included the navy blue men’s pea coat and women’s suede boots. Many teenage boys and young men, destined to be drafted during the Vietnam war era, wore army green military jackets.

Want to make your 1960’s party more fun and authentic by speaking the popular lingo of the decade? Then, scroll on down this page to read the section entitled: Common Sayings and 1960’s Slang.

1960’s Theme Party Costumes

1960’s party costumes are very easy to find. Hippie costumes can be purchased new or just put together from thrift store clothing and/or clothes in your closet. Keep in mind the 1960’s fashion and culture to help you dress as a flower child, hippie, hippie chick, go-go dancer, or even a fashion model, like Twiggy or Jean Shrimpton. Other 1960’s party costume ideas include dressing as a rock ‘n’ roll star or a Motown group like The Supremes or The Temptations.

1960’s Theme Party Costume Accessories

John Lennon of the Beatles, made metal-rimmed, colored sunglasses a very popular fashion craze which are still available as popular costume accessories today. Many party stores as well as Amazon.com carry lots of 60’s party accessories like: peace symbol necklaces, love beads, toy tambourines, flowery hair wreaths, tie-dye shirts, bandannas and wide belts. Other 1960’s costume accessories include Mop-top wigs and the very popular 1960’s style women’s go-go boots.

1960’s Theme Party Decorations

To decorate your 60’s theme party try tie-dye table covers and tie-dye colored paper lanterns. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on some old 1960’s record album covers, you can display them at your party. Other 1960’s party decorations include items like inflatable guitars, love beads, and lots of wild flowers reminiscent of the flower child. We also used a tie-dye wall decorating kit, and a kit of 1960’s style cut outs which consisted of peace symbols. flower shapes and smiley faces. We randomly placed the 60’s style cut-out decorations on our tie-dye table cover to decorate our party display table. For my 1960’s party, we painted and decorated large wine bottles with long necks and used them as flower vases to adorn our party table.  We purchased toy tambourines and tied brightly colored ribbons on them.

1960’s Theme Party Music

For your 1960’s party music, download some 60’s music compilations. Mix it up to include the popular music of the decade, such as: the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Motown music and some 60’s folk music too. For my 60’s party, my party guests danced with the toy tambourines (ribbons flowing) and sang to the Fifth Dimension’s Aquarius, Let the Sunshine. It was awesome!

How to Throw a Women’s Pajama Party

Women’s Pajama Party Breakfast

Here is a fun idea for ladies to enjoy a women’s adult pajama party without having to spend the night or sleep over. Instead, invite your girlfriends to a pajama party breakfast. Your ladies’ pajama party can be held at your favorite local breakfast restaurant or even at a country club dining room. You can make reservations at the restaurant; or if you are a small group of less than ten, just walk in and wait for a table.

Many women do not want to drive alone at night, even if it’s just across town. And they don’t want to spend the night, such as a sleepover at someone’s home. But, you can still pull this party off by having it at as a P.J. breakfast. Trust me, this will be fun! I know, because my friends and I do this every couple of months and we all have such a great time showing up and showing off in our pajamas.

So how do I throw my breakfast pajama party at a restaurant? Read on for all the daffy details. You and your guests will arrive at a local breakfast restaurant dressed in your pajamas (making some adjustments for being in public, of course). Be sure, when you make the invite, to also make suggestions for attire to assist your party guests with what they should wear.

Here are some fun dress-up suggestions for a Breakfast Pajama Party:

When your group arrives, believe me, you all will get lots of attention from the other diners and the restaurant staff as well. But, hey, yeah, that’s half the fun!  Most of the attention will be in the form of amusement and some of it will be shock and awe! But overall your group will be the hit of the day. Get your group seated and encourage your party guests to order their favorite breakfast, such as blueberry pancakes or waffles with whipped cream. And maybe you all might enjoy a drink, such as a Mimosa, if alcohol is served at your restaurant or country club venue.

After everyone has placed their breakfast order, get your group back up again and start snapping some group photos. It’s important to get this accomplished before your server begins serving the breakfast. And you certainly will want to document your pajama party in photos. Plus, your friends will just love to show off the photos on social media sites as well. Encourage as much silliness as you can in order to get some really candid and funny photos of your pajama party group. You will be surprised how easily your friends will start striking a pose in their pajamas. Make sure you ask the server to take a couple of shots so everyone will be in the photos. I have never had a server say no to taking group photos. And I always thank them by living an extra big tip.

Take my word for it, your Pajama Party will be awesome!  So, have fun with it because the sky is the limit.

How to Throw a Western Style Theme Party

Western style theme parties are the easiest theme party to throw. Your guests will dress up in the casual style of cowboys, cowgirls and old west settlers.

I hosted my western theme party at a local BBQ restaurant that offered a free private party room. That was easy! This party was planed for an adults ladies group, but would be great for a co-ed mixed group, men, and for a kid’s/children’s western party too. The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo was in town, so my party guests dressed up cowgirl style. The cowgirls wore cowboy hats and western boots, western shirts, jeans, western style leather belts with big shiny rodeo belt buckles.

To prepare for my old west party, I made a Wanted poster photo prop from an old piece of cardboard. I printed out the lettering for the poster on heavy stock paper and used safe non-toxic school glue to adhere the Wanted/Reward lettering to the top and bottom of the poster. I planned to use the Wanted poster as a party photo booth. As my party guests arrived, each one of them posed for a selfie photo op by holding the Wanted poster in front of her face. Everyone became engaged in the process and we all had lots of fun posing for our old west mug shots.

The tables at the BBQ restaurant were made of dark stained, weathered-looking wood, so there was really no need for lots of centerpieces. Instead I brought along a very cute, and inexpensive, old western town standup centerpiece which came with sticker attachments to convert the look into a cowgirl themed party.

My party guests had fun exchanging white elephant gifts that matched our western party theme. The BBQ restaurant venue I chose is decorated in a Texas old west style. There were framed photos and artwork of cowboys in the old west, a Texas star, and the Texas State flag. Therefore, I had very little decorating to do and that was great for my party event budget. Our party favor bags were plain brown paper gift bags decorated with western style stickers which included a galloping horse, a sheriff’s star and a western frontier emblem. I decorated one of the chairs with a western boot, a party favor bag and a western hat, using a brightly colored poncho for the backdrop.

I spent zero dollars on a party music budget because our private dining room resonated with the sound of country western music emanating from the venue’s excellent sound system. The volume of the music was not too loud, and not too low, for our party. It was just perfect! And, my guests soon began to sing-a-long with the country songs. We did, however, cowgirl-up by giving a well-deserved nod to our great State of Texas by belting out, “Deep in the Heart of Texas.” Yee-haw! Then we laughed and talked while we enjoyed one of the best BBQ plate lunches around. And we even caught a few glimpses of a western style wedding reception party in full swing in an adjoining private room.

Plan Beach Theme Party Hawaiian Luau

Planning to throw an indoor Beach Party or Hawaiian Luau theme party? Here are some unique ideas for decorating beach theme parties.

Immerse your party guests in the beach party theme by hanging an inexpensive ocean beach backdrop on the wall

A lightweight 4′ tall, 30’ wide sky, sea, and sand backdrop can be hung from the wall with painter’s tape that won’t damage the wall paint. The backdrop can be cut to fit the area you are covering. Add a sandy beach backdrop to the bottom edge of a sky, sea, and sand backdrop to completely cover a six to eight-foot wall.

  • To add interest and realism to your backdrop(s) print photos of birds flying over the sea, against the sky and sea-life such as dolphins jumping over the ocean waves at or just above the horizon line of the sea and sky. For natural and realistic images be sure to use quality glossy photo paper for printing the photos. Cut out the images in the photos around the edges of the birds, dolphins, or other sea-life images and affix the photos to the sky backdrop. If you affix the photos with something that will not damage the backdrop, you may be able salvage your backdrop to use again for another party. For the sandy beach backdrop area, try adding photos of crabs and seashells onto the sand backdrop area.
  • Welcome your party guests to your Hawaiian Luau party by decorating the outside of your front door with Aloha door cover.

Another Great Beach Party Hawaiian Luau Decorating Idea

Another great decorating idea for your beach party Hawaiian Luau is to use an  underwater scene made of bulletin board paper to cover a wall or other area. Print photos of actual underwater sea life such as colorful tropical fish, shark, stingray, octopus and even coral reefs. Cut around the edges of your photos to only include the sea life image itself.  Affixing these photos to the bulletin board paper underwater scene will provide an amazingly realistic underwater scene your party guests will love.

  • Hawaiian style grass table skirts work great for decorating an entryway and doorways in the home for your Hawaiian Luau. To hang the Hawaiian style grass table skirt, attach each end of the table skirt to the corners of the entryway or doorway and let it drape down in the middle. Hanging the grass table skirts at the entrance to the main Hawaiian Luau room will give your guests the sense of walking into a Hawaiian paradise. Make your indoor Hawaiian luau room even more inviting by hanging dark green and dark brown crepe paper party streamers, alternating the colors as you go. Using colored construction paper, cut out tropical “leaves” using green, light-green and other tropical colors. For a natural look, affix your tropical leaves to the streamers in a random fashion.
  • Making faux surf board is another great Beach Party decoration and can also function as a Hawaiian Luau prop and/or a Beach Party photo booth. You can also buy an inflatable surf board. Have your guests stand next to the upright surfboard and hold onto it, then start snapping some great photos.
  • Look for more beach party and Hawaiian theme party decorations to make your party spectacular. You can even add a luau waterfall standee party prop!

7 Foolproof Steps You Need for a Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner Party for Two

Create an easy romantic dinner party for two or Valentine’s Day dinner?  Do you have a new man or woman in your life? I have 7 foolproof steps for a Romantic Valentine’s Day Dinner Party for Two. These steps will work for any romantic dinner for two at your place.

Okay well, you say you have had several lunch and dinner dates and a movie date too. You seem to click so well and…you have caught yourself thinking that this one, might be “The One.” You want to invite this special person in your life into your home for a lovely dinner. You have discovered that your date’s favorite meal includes a medium rare tenderloin steak. I have a seven-step foolproof plan to make this romantic evening a success. However, to make this work, you will need to be the kind of person who believes fun can be romantic. And it helps if your date feels that way too.

Step 1:  Prepare and Cook a Tenderloin Steak and Salad dinner

What’s that you say, you are not a very good cook and even worse at grilling? Don’t give up! Fortunately, I have a very easy recipe for how to prepare and cook the perfect tenderloin steak dinner.

Step 2:  The Couple Who Cooks Together Stays Together

Set the stage for a relaxed romantic atmosphere by letting your date know that you will be preparing the meal together. Be sure to have a women’s apron and/ or a men’s apron, one for you and one for your date. Now you have successfully arranged to make your first dinner date at home together a relaxing and romantic evening of sharing and fun.

Step 3:  Give Yourself Plenty of Lead Time to Prepare for This Special At-Home Dinner Date

You don’t want to be rushed and appear nervous and tense. Decide what you will wear and have your outfit all ready for you to slip into shortly before your date arrives. If scheduling a maid service to come by the day before will take some of the stress off of your shoulders, then by all means make arrangements for that to happen.  Now take a deep breath…because you are almost home free.

Step 4:  Make a List and Go Grocery Shopping Two Days Prior to the Date Night

Review the recipe ingredients in Step 6 below, and be sure to have everything on hand that you will need to prepare the steak and dinner salad. Maybe even check with your favorite local meat market a week beforehand to ensure the tenderloin steaks you need will be available. Try to have an alternate meat market in mind just in case.

Step 5:  I am Going to Give You a Surprisingly Simple Recipe for Cooking Tenderloin Steaks Perfectly

First you will need to have all the items listed below on hand in your kitchen. If you are missing anything, add it to your grocery shopping list.

  • Cast Iron Skillet – If you don’t own a well-seasoned cast iron skillet, borrow one, or purchase a new pre-seasoned cast iron skillet. I will provide a link for one below; and if you have an Amazon Prime account they can usually deliver your purchase in only two days.
  • Olive Oil – It’s great if you have a no drip olive oil dispenser
  • Sea Salt
  • Peppercorns
  • Lettuce-I prefer Boston lettuce, but choose your favorite or your date’s favorite, if you know it.
  •  Salad Ingredients-Add salad ingredients as desired. I like peeled and sliced cucumbers, tomato wedges. For a real treat, add frozen blueberries that you have washed, dried and frozen a few days ahead of time.
  • Salad Dressing-You should probably know your date’s favorite salad dressing by now since you’ve had several dinner dates. If not, plan to have a few popular selections on hand. You might even whip up a vinaigrette dressing.

Step 6:  This is the Perfect Time to Turn on some Ambient Romantic Music to Invoke an Atmosphere of Relaxation and Romance

Light the candles on the dinner table on which you placed a lovely romantic table setting. Uncork that nice bottle of Bordeaux wine, let it breathe a little…then fill the wineglasses. Mmm, sounds nice, no? Yes. Ah, what a lovely feeling of pleasurable contentment. Now is the perfect moment to don and tie up each others’ aprons. Together you will create that wonderful steak and salad dinner together.

Ingredients

2 (2 – 2 1/2 inch-thick) tenderloin steaks (set the steaks out at least 20 minutes ahead of time)
2 tablespoons olive oil
sea salt
coarsely cracked black peppercorns

Directions

You and your date can don your aprons and have fun preparing the salad. Wash your salad and spin dry in a high quality salad spinner. I can personally highly recommend the OXO Good Grips Green Salad Spinner. You can work together peeling and slicing the cucumber and slicing the tomatoes into wedges. And if your date likes blueberries you can share a kiss and a couple of blueberries, or maybe share a blueberry and a couple of kisses too. Once you have added all your salad ingredients, place the salad in the fridge to keep it nice and cold and crisp.

Okay, here we go!

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Heat a large cast-iron skillet over high heat (do this about 10 minutes before adding the steaks to the pan). Turn on and set your stove-top hood fan on high for ventilation.

While the skillet is heating, use paper towels to pat dry the tenderloin steaks. Brush the steaks with olive oil, using more or less as necessary (adding the oil directly to the steaks will mean less smoke in the skillet). Salt and pepper the steaks on both sides. Don’t be afraid to go a little heavy with the salt and pepper as the searing process will cause some of the salt and pepper to remain in the skillet and not on the meat.

When the skillet is extremely hot, add the steaks and sear evenly on all sides (top, bottom, and edges) for about 3 minutes per side and about 30 seconds per edge. This searing process should take about a total of 8 minutes.

If you have seared the steaks in an extremely hot cast iron skillet for 8 minutes or so, you should now have rare steaks.

If you prefer your steaks more well done, turn off the stove, grab an oven mitt and place the skillet with the seared steaks in the preheated oven on the center rack.

Cook the steaks for:

4 – 6 minutes for medium-rare (your date’s preference)

6 – 8 minutes for medium well

8 – 10 minutes for well-done (not recommended)

Once you have cooked the steaks to the desired done, remove the skillet from the oven and place the steaks on a board or plate. Tent a piece of aluminum foil over the steaks and let them rest for at least 5 minutes. Remember that the cooking time will vary according to the thickness of the steaks.

In the meantime, remove the salad from the fridge and place it on the dinner table. Uncover the steaks and place them on the table and enjoy what you have created together.

There you go, a very simple, but very satisfying steak and salad dinner. All you need to do is add the ambiance and romance.

Step 7:  Enjoy the rest of the evening, because this tenderloin steak and salad recipe provides the added ingredient of an easy cleanup.

Transform Your Party Event into an Unforgettable Occasion!

Making your party event successful and one to remember quite often requires you to think outside the box. I want to assist you in doing what it takes to make your event memorable. You may be marketing your company, corporation or organization, but you should always be marketing you too! I want to prepare you to make yourself look oh-so-good.

Let’s make your party or event one that your guests will remember for a lifetime. Let’s propose that you are in the process of choosing a venue for your big event and many of your event guests will be from out of town. There are certain aspects you will need to take into consideration, all within company policy, of course. This is where attention to detail can make or break your party event. Therefore, you need to select an event venue that will keep your out-of-town guests comfortable and happy.

Your guests should never feel as though you have required them to decide between business or pleasure. With this in mind, you should, instead, always plan to place your guests in the middle of all the action. Appeal to their senses by infusing their visit with local flavor. Look for a venue within an area of vibrancy and walkability . Consider cozy hotels, unique restaurants and nearby attractions to make the most of their visit. Choose hotels that offer a savvy, but friendly staff that exudes warm hospitality. Also consider if your guests will be interested in lively after-hours entertainment. If so, look for nightly entertainment that provides a spectacular venue for groups. Then be sure to provide your group with an event venue close to after-hours dining and entertainment.

As an event planner you must keep in mind the need for unique and versatile meeting spaces with state-of-the-art facilities, as these elements will combine to ensure your success. Make it a point to become educated regarding which venues offer assistance and necessary services with providers such as:

BAGS – Remote Skycap, Valet, Bag and Coat Check
Centerplate – Catering and Specialty Services
FedEx Office – Business Centers and Mobility Solutions
LMG – Audio/Visual Services
Smart City – Internet, Digital Advertising and Telecommunications

Just imagine how you will soon be planning one-of-a-kind events within unforgettable venues. When you manage all this successfully, your guests will surely regard your big event as icing on the cake!  Your ever-developing and improving event planning skills, along with your attention to detail will combine to make all your events memorable. If you have not yet availed yourself with specialized event planning education, I sincerely hope you will. Many colleges and universities offer event planner certifications. Some of the event and wedding planner courses available at colleges combine classroom and web-based training. There are also other organizations that offer event planner certification exclusively through online courses. Naturally, your actual on the job experience is of the utmost importance. But it certainly won’t hurt to be certified, especially if you are interested in branching out into other areas of event planning, such as wedding planning and the like. You can always benefit from all the tools of the trade required to be successful. My advice is to go for it!

Protect Cell Phone Event Planning 101

Protect Cell – Event Planning 101

The most important aspect of event planning is communication. Event planner communication via smart phone with protective cell phone case is a must.

One of the worst things that has ever happened to me just before an event was the loss of my smart phone. While juggling too many things at once, I dropped my cell phone and it shattered. Mostly party event planning is a blast. However, I just knew my event was ruined as my phone slipped from my grasp and hurtled to the ground bouncing off chairs and tables on it’s way down to it’s ultimate destruction. My mind was racing as I picked up my now shattered cell phone and I was thinking what a clumsy fool I was for rushing around trying to accomplish too many things at once. I quickly realized that not only was I unable to communicate with my important event planning crew for that day, but that I had literally lost all my phone contacts. All of my cell phone contact’s names, addresses and phone numbers were gone!  Hold on, you might say. Didn’t you have all your phone contacts backed up to the Cloud? No I did not. Oops. I kept thinking one of these days I need to stop and take the time to figure out how to back up all my phone contacts. But, there I was with a shattered phone and an almost shattered event.

After that terrible day, I was completely determined to back up all my contacts from my new smart phone to the Cloud. With a little online research I learned the art of backing up all my contacts, photos and more. But, I was still not satisfied that I would not wind up without a phone at one of my events. That concern prompted me to do some more research in the area of protective cell phone cases. After pouring over all the many and differing features of cell phone cases, I finally found one I believed was just what I wanted and with all the features I required.

Important Features of a Cell Phone Case:

  • Attached protective screen shield
  • Two durable layers of protection
  • Hard poly-carbonate outer shell
  • Heavy-duty, shock-absorbent silicone interior skin
  • Allows access to device controls, features and port
  • Holster and/or Belt Clip

I am back on track with my new iphone and a new cell phone case that will protect my phone from me. As I said, this is Event Planning 101. Save your contacts and back up your contacts to the Cloud or whatever online service you use to save important data. The life blood of an event planner is our contacts and we can’t do our job without them. I hope that by sharing my unfortunate experience of losing all my business contacts that you can avoid the same situation. If you have not yet backed up your phone contacts, do it now. If you don’t have a protective cover for your smart phone, invest in one now. Still using a flip phone? Oh no, no, no. Get your very own smart phone and join in all the fun. That is with a protective case of course. Now let’s get out there and plan some really exciting parties and events!

How to Build a Childrens Birthday Party Pirate Ship

How to Build a Pirate Ship for a Children’s Party.

Easy DIY project. Great photo op for kids’ pirate birthday party. Great for adult pirate party too.

You can also make wood or cardboard propellers to transform it to a steampunk pirate airship. Have pirate ship, will travel. Our pirate ship design creates a pirate ship that is made to travel with ease. Our wooden ship folds in half and fits in your hatch back with the seats folded down. We actually transported our pirate ship in a Toyota Prius. We loaded it through the hatch with the back seats folded down. And another time we loaded it up in a Hyundai Tucson the same way.

Argh! You don’t have to be an expert to make this simple pirate ship party prop and with a few easy additions you can make a steampunk pirate airship as well. Avast me hearties! Get ye olde pirate hat or ye steampunk top hat on and let’s get to work on building a pirate ship with lightweight plywood and a saber saw. See photos and instructions below.

Build a Pirate Ship for a Adult Pirate Party

You will need the following items and tools to build a pirate ship like this one:

  • Saber saw
  • Lightweight wood ¼” to ¾” plywood
  • Wood glue
  • Screwdriver
  • Screws
  • 2 Metal hinges
  • Wood cleat to construct masts
  • Nuts and bolts (2 sets per mast)
  • Pencil or marker (to outline ship)
  • Paint for body of ship and masts
  • Paint for the optional ocean waves

Instructions on How to Build a Pirate Ship:

  • Refer to the photos above and click on each photo for a larger view
  • On your plywood, free hand the ship outline and any windows or cutouts you want on your ship, such as cutout for cannons
  • Cut out your pirate ship design with your saber saw
  • Then cut the pirate ship in half
    • Attach hinges (as shown) to the rear of the ship
  • If you would like to add some extra design to your pirate ship, here is what we did:
    • Using scrap plywood, form long strips and glue them to the front of the ship
    • Use the plywood from your cutouts to create a design by gluing them below the long strips you glued above
  • Create the masts for your pirate ship using the wood cleat
    • If you want your ship to travel, be sure to construct it to easily detach and re-attach the masts and remember to bring your tools
  • You may also want to create an ocean waves feature on the bottom of your ship
    • Draw the ocean waves design on plywood
    • Cut out your wave design
    • Attach the ocean waves design to the pirate ship with wood glue
  • Important! You should consider how your pirate ship will be securely displayed at the birthday party. It is very important to decide if you need to make any additions or modifications in order to safely display your pirate ship to ensure it does not fall backward or forwards.

Check back soon for easy tips on how I decorated and transformed our little wooden pirate ship, originally built for a children’s pirate birthday party, into a Steampunk Pirate Ghost Airship for an awesome Adult Steampunk Pirate Party.

3 Ways to Make Your Party Event Memorable

“When it comes to party supplies such as party decorations, think creatively. You’ve already got some great inspiration and ideas for your next party event…”

An event planner mentioned to me that she was disappointed because although she planned and hosted many parties, they all pretty much looked the same. I asked her to explain how the party events were similar. It turns out that there were always lots of colorful party balloons, streamers and party favors. However, the party theme colors were almost always red, yellow, blue, green and orange. Well I could see exactly what she meant. It would be boring if every party we planned was decorated in just these color combinations. So how do you keep your party and your party colors from being boring and unmemorable?

Here are 3 Ways to Make Your Party Event Memorable

1. Be Imaginative!

Stretch your imagination to come up with some unique party ideas. Think about coming up with a party event theme based on a popular TV series such as Downton Abbey, Empire, or Mistresses.

Be Imaginative
Be Imaginative! Stretch your imagination to come up with some unique party ideas.

As an event planner I like to plan parties that easily lend themselves to specific colors that are not typical run of the mill primary colors. A Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme for a Bridal or Baby Shower allows the party planner to bathe the room in Tiffany blue better known as robin’s egg blue. Now bring in the color of black add some party decorations and favors such as imitation pearls and diamonds and you have unique party event that your women guests will adore!

 2. Be creative!

When it comes to party supplies such as party decorations, think creatively. You’ve already got some great inspiration and ideas for your next party event, so don’t go “Plain Jane” on the decorations.  Be sure to think outside the box for party decorations that will make you next event extraordinary and unforgettable. Think jars filled with colorful baubles, giant goblets filled with colored stones and vases full of fantastical feathers!

3. Bring on the lights!

Create an exciting party room with lights. Transform your party venue into a fantasy land and a wondrous “nightscape” by illuminating it with the magnificent ambiance of light.

What is Steampunk Fashion

Ezpzparties Event Planner Party Host - L.J.
Ezpzparties Event Planner Party Host – L.J.

“Mix the prim and proper Victorian period of dress with, what would seem like, futuristic accessories and you have steampunk fashion.”

First let us ask, what is steampunk itself? Think about seeing things in Victorian times that would never seem scientifically possible, maybe a flying car like the one in an old animated film or maybe a flying pirate ship powered by a hot air balloon and propellers or maybe by an airship (dirigible). Look at the fashion during that conventional and straight laced era in time. Mix the prim and proper Victorian period of dress with, what would seem like, futuristic accessories and you have steampunk fashion. Just think industrial revolution on steroids and high fashion raging right along with it.

Even if you are just a guest, a steampunk party is not just something you attend, rather you “prepare” for it. If you know some crafty ladies, you may even want to get together with them for a pre-party; that is a steampunk craft party in order to make steampunk hats with decorations. What kind of decorations are needed for a steampunk hat and for a steampunk costume or outfit? Steampunk generally includes items such as goggles, old fashioned keys, locks, hats, feathers, compass, gears, gauges, clocks, watches, chains, bustier, full skirts (full skirts hiked up and draped over leggings), pants, vest, poet shirt, jacket, or coat. Search for steampunk style clothing images on the internet.  In Steampunk fashion you will notice belts, buckles, boots, gloves, half gloves, goggles, hats, leather, lace, felt, heavy jewelry chains, charms, keys, locks, compasses, vests, full skirts, almost anything goes!

Still not sure what steampunk is all about? Just keep searching the internet for steampunk costumes, clothes, fashion, and decorations. Whether you have been invited to a steampunk pirate party or a general steampunk theme party the costume and accessory possibilities are endless. I bet you have clothes in the back of your closet that will work in creating a steampunk costume.

Some costumes worn to a Renaissance Fair can also work really well for steampunk with a few alterations and additions. After that, all you need do is find some accessories. I got most of my steampunk accessories on Amazon. I purchased a felt top hat real cheap from Amazon and decorated it with an old fashioned Victorian style key and some small bronze and gold colored imitation gears. So here is how easy and fast you can have a Steampunk hat! I did this in just a few minutes with old jewelry, hat pin, wine cork key chain and a key from Amazon. I still have some small imitation gears (also purchased) from Amazon to attach to the hat. Don’t have my goggles yet and I haven’t glued it all together, but you get the idea.
